White-Whiskered Laughingthrush

A species of bird within the Leiothrichidae family is the white-whiskered laughingthrush or Formosan laughing thrush (Garrulax morrisonianus). The mountainous forests of the island of Taiwan are endemic.

White-Whiskered Laughingthrush

Superbly plumaged songbird with white facial markings that give it an almost comical whiskered look. Brown overall, with accents in the plumage of black, buff, purple, plum, blue, and orange. It inhabits the edge of the montane forest with thick shrubbery or grassy cover, but also occurs on roadsides and forage trails, also crossing the road near vehicles. When frightened, it runs in loud flocks or in pairs, providing soft touch calls and harsh rattling and whistling sounds. The music, the tinkling of a melody, is simple yet fun.
